Ailiu Eanai

Perhaps AnnaK knows the words??

Great song - first discovered when I was 15*. I was writing for a radio show and had introduced two Irish characters. Found at one of those nerd record fairs. Secrets revealed...

* no, I was not 15 when this song was first released.

  1. Tut-Tut...you should know better T, I've just had to make your links clickable. I'm not really getting this song either...is it because I only like men with axes?

  2. Not one in my collection I'm afraid, but there are definite sentiments in there of something else....

One that does pulls at my heartstrings every time though, and clearly the most appropriate part is that it is synonymous with THAT Tennent's lager advert, which is also v cool - I used to think he was sooo hot!! Enjoy!

  3. Is this how you feel every day in London, AnnaK? Now I feel like playing 'Ailiu Eanai' and sitting in the corner with a block of cheese...

Amazing how he got back home on the same day, and had his friends gathered at the bar ready to receive him. All in a time when there were no mobile phones...

And why does the rubbish man look so aggressive when he throws in the briefcase? Imagine if you put a lunch wrapper in the bin of a street sweeper and you got that grill in your face!

  4. Tristan really - do you not remember a time when you carried a BT phone card in your wallet???? Well probs not since you're not from these shores! :-)But even in those times, London to Caledonia was possible in a day - those flying machines have been around for quite some time you know.

I have to admit though, when you consider this was shot during Gordon Gekko's reign (or there abouts), it's surprising the bin man - who I agree doesn't exactly put on the expression of a beautiful baby doll - wasn't straight in the back of the truck after the briefcase to see what insider trading secrets he could illict to make his own millions from...
